After reducing them to 800x800, they would load. What I found was that the files where artwork wasn't loading had artwork of greater than 1000x1000. I had it previously when I was having issues, but didn't realize until Dasmizdub's post that the issue was with the songs being more than one folder deep on the drive. Playlist Export is available in the Mac App store. I suspect this program does exactly what Dasmizdub did with scripts, but it was very easy. PLUS, finally, the scroll wheel allows navigation AND the album art shows up in the HUD with the song title when you scroll, which is pretty cool. So, now on USB with iDrive 7 I have all my music showing up, it sorts by artist, album, genre etc (that's all embedded in the files) AND the playlists work. It both exports the music from your library to the USB drive (and lets you change the folder structure, so it exported it so the files were just in a folder with the artist's name) and also exports the Playlists and fixes the path. I used a program I have on my Mac called Playlist Export.
Well, I believe I have figured this out and I'm very pleased. I hope this prevents someone from hours of searching to make the transition from 6.0 to 7.0 successful!! Using Notepad ++, I was able to quickly modify the playlists so that they matched the new library.Įverything, including Album Art, works perfectly. To modify the playlists, I imported the new library into iTunes (turn off music management) and double-click my old playlists. Using my original iTunes library I removed the album folders and moved all of the songs under the artist (over 9000 tracks - I used a script). And the songs can only be one folder deep (actually two).
All playlists have to in the root of the USB - no subfolders. As long as they are formatted properly (ANSI - no UTF8), it will read playlists in a playlist folder off the root. IDrive 6.0 will read an iTunes library with nested folders (.\music\artist\album\song). Never more than a few songs and no playlists at all. I tried the five drive swap trick, nothing. I just received my 2021 M550 and again, no success on the drive. The rest never imported, no matter how long I waited. I was never able to hear more than a few songs. In each of the 7.0 cars I drove over the last two years, I tried to use my flash drive to listen to my library with no success. I previously had an 18 M550 with iDrive 6.0 and used an exported iTunes library complete with playlists for an in-car USB music library. In the age of Spotify, IHeartRadio, Pandora, and Sirius, I still like to maintain my own USB library of music. Greetings! If this has already been solved by someone else, please disregard, but I couldn't find it so I had to figure it out myself.
